The complaint came in as “nuisance dogs barking all night.” But when our animal control partner arrived at the rural property, they found something far worse—a massive Great Dane mix chained to a rusted truck axle with only 3 feet of movement. His name? Titan.
What shocked us more:
His only companion was a one-eyed feral cat who brought him stolen food
The chain had embedded in his neck, requiring surgery
At 140 lbs, he was 50 lbs underweight for his breed
We loaded both animals into our van that day—neither would leave without the other.
Titan’s Medical Journey:
Emergency surgery to remove the embedded chain
Physical therapy for muscle atrophy (he couldn’t walk more than 10 steps at first)
6 months of nutritional rehab to regain healthy weight
Shadow the Cat’s Transformation:
FIV+ and blind in one eye from untreated infection
Learned to accept pets (but only while sitting on Titan’s back)
Developed an obsession with stealing socks (his “trophies”)
The unbreakable bond between these two became our clinic’s heartwarming spectacle:
Shadow would bathe Titan’s scars daily
Titan would carry Shadow to food bowls like a royal attendant
At night, they slept curled together in one oversized bed
Enter Martha, a retired hospice nurse:
“I lost my husband last year. When I saw how Titan gently let Shadow ride on him, I knew—these two understand loss and love better than anyone.”
Today:
✓ Titan serves as Martha’s mobility support animal (she has MS)
✓ Shadow alerts when Titan’s arthritis flares up
✓ The trio volunteers at grief counseling centers
“We rescued each other,” Martha says.”
We are dedicated to rescuing, sheltering, and rehoming abandoned cats and dogs while promoting spaying and neutering to end the cycle of overpopulation.
